Outdoor Pursuits

The Keswick area provides challenges for the serious fell hiker or inexperienced walker alike. As well as Skiddaw (931m), Helvellyn (949m) and Scafell Pike (977m) smaller hills such as Latrigg (367m) and Catbells (445m) offer memorable experiences. Cycling and climbing are also popular pursuits on these hills, while canoeing, boating and fishing are activities common on the local lakes and rivers.

In addition to being a centre for these outdoor pursuits the constituency also boasts many sporting activities that are traditional features of local culture. During late summer the local agricultural shows feature Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling, as well as fell races. Visitors will certainly enjoy this opportunity to dip into local culture, with stalls selling local food and produce, but some locals will be found racing steep slopes or trying to wrestle each other to the ground.
